Could you provide me with some information about accommodation for students?

Fully furnished units/houses/apartments/flats are not common in Australia.
If you are looking at renting a 2 bedroom unit/flat/apartment, the rent per week is approximately AU$240 to AU$280 (depending on the location, condition of the property etc).

If you are searching for a property somewhere close to your campus or city, you should ask us.

We recommend that you try to look in areas that provide main transportation services – such as train stations, bus stops and access to main roads.

Can you help me with accommodation while I'm visiting Brisbane?

AA has a comprehensive list of all types of accommodation available in Brisbane, to suit every budget. We can also send you an information pack containing maps and brochures to assist you when planning your stay in Brisbane.

How to find your own accommodation in Sydney?

You are encouraged to inspect any prospective accommodation before agreeing to move in or agree with us to inspect it for you. Once a suitable property is located, you will need to put in an application and possibly pay a holding deposit (equivalent to one week’s rent).

If the application is accepted, a Residential Tenancy Agreement will need to be signed and rent in advance (usually one or two weeks) plus a rental bond (4 weeks for unfurnished properties, 6 weeks for furnished) will need to be paid.

Please ensure you receive a copy of the Residential Tenancy Agreement, Condition Report, “The Renting Guide”, and receipts for all payments made.

Do all hostels have social amenities shared on the corridor?

No, some hostels offer other kind of rooms with own social facilities or apartments (two rooms share bathroom and WC together).

Can I buy breakfast in the hostel?

Yes, many hostels have breakfast already included in the price.

Is there an age limit in hostels?

No, all hostels are open to all ages!

Can I use the Internet?

Yes, some hostels have the Internet available in common rooms. Please, look for this information in the description of each hostel.

Is it necessary to make a reservation in advance?

Yes, especially during the tourist season when hostels are usually booked up pretty soon in advance.

What shall I do, if I want to cancel my reservation?

Send us the cancellation as soon as possible by fax or e-mail with requirement of confirmation from us. In cases where you have cancelled the reservation less than 48 hours before the day of arrival, you will be subject to the accommodation no show and cancellation policies and will lose your deposit.

Could you please send me a confirmation of my reservation by fax?

We prefer to communicate by e-mail but in special cases we can send it by fax.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes, we offer discounts for long term stays (more than 14 days) and group reservations.

Are the quoted prices final or do I have to pay something more at the reception?

All prices are final including GST and taxes.

What possibilities of payment do I have?

We prefer payment by direct debit.

Are flats usually furnished? Most rental accommodation in Australia is unfurnished; therefore you will need to furnish your own apartment by buying new or used goods.

What about electricity?

You will need to connect your electricity when you first move into your rented accommodation. This is a simple process that can be completed over the phone.

What happens if I do not show up and I have already paid?

If you do not show up at the Guest House you will be subject to the accommodation no show and cancellation policies and will lose your deposit.

Do I need to pre-book accommodation?

In the busy season it is a good idea to book ahead to ensure you don’t miss out.

What do home stay accommodations provide?

Usually you become part of the family, have meals together and will have a single-person, private bedroom with your own desk to study. You should have access to public transport services and to a major shopping centre.

My son is 16 years old and would like to study year 11 in Australia. I’m concerned about where he should stay.

How do I know if my hotel reservation is confirmed?

You will receive an email notification from the hotel/ motel.

Do children receive discounted rates?

Policies regarding child reductions vary from hotel to hotel. Where these discounts apply, they are passed on to you. Please verify with us.

How much will I be charged if I cancel a booking?

What credit/debit cards are accepted?

Motels/Hotels accept payment by Visa and MasterCard.


What do you do with my personal information?

I am disabled. How can I request a special room or equipment?

Many accommodation and tourist attractions have upgraded their facilities for the disabled. We will do our best to find you the most suitable accommodation for your disability.

Can I select a motor home via the Internet?

Yes, this is certainly possible. AA can provide you with recommendations that best suit your needs for quality and price.

Are caravans suitable for parents travelling with small children?

Unfortunately not all caravan types are suitable for travelling with children. Please contact us to help you find the right option.

Are there any budget resorts available?

Yes, there are certainly resorts around that provide excellent service and standards for less money.

Are pets allowed?

It all depends on the individual apartments - please state that you have a pet when booking and we will be only too happy to enquire for you.

Is it difficult to find uni accommodation?

Yes, there is certainly a high demand for uni accommodation. Again, you need to book accommodation early together with your study enrolment.
