When to go to Queensland
For many Queenslander’s a typical summer includes temperatures ranging from 20°C – 40°C degrees and are characterised by high humidity and plenty of rain. However, unlike different parts of Australia, Queensland enjoys warm winters averaging from 10°C - 29°C in southern areas such as Brisbane and 17°C - 31°C in northern parts such as Cairns or Townsville. Between June and September is a great time to travel to the Sunshine State because of the warm temperate conditions along the coast. There is also a lot less rainfall in this period.
Places to see, things to do
Gold Coast
One of the must see destinations is the Gold Coast, just south of Brisbane. This stunning destination offers over 50 kilometres of coastline, great surf beaches and excellent weather. The Gold Coast is the complete package – six major theme parks including Movie World, Wet’n Wild and Underwater World, a huge number of golf courses, restaurants, nightclubs and more. There is the grand vantage point of the Q1 Building, which offers stunning views across the whole city. The Gold Coast is also renowned for its excellent transport system so getting from A to B is never a problem.
The Great Barrier Reef
Come to the world’s largest coral reef off the coast of Queensland. This world heritage site has become known to many as one of the ‘World’s 7 natural wonders’ because of its striking beauty, abundance of marine life and diversity. Tours and cruises are offered from day trips to longer expeditions. You can see the reefs by boat or yacht trips, underwater observatories, from up above in a helicopter or you can go snorkelling or scuba diving along the outer parts of the Reef. Don’t miss the chance to see whales, dolphins, sea turtles, starfish, seahorses, pipefish and many more colourful and dazzling species in their own natural habitat.
Brisbane
Another great destination for all people coming to Queensland is Brisbane. This city presents a wide array of outdoor- activities, botanical gardens and wildlife opportunities. At the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary you can encounter wombats, kangaroos, emus and hold a koala. At Moreton Island toboggan down the world’s largest sand dunes and at Stradbroke Island try sea kayaking while taking in the glorious views around the island.
