Sarah Goolkasian

Student profile
Sarah Goolkasian, United States – Global Leadership Program
When Sarah Goolkasian first visited Australia in 2003 – backpacking and canoeing her way through the outback – she never imagined that five years later she’d be back to undertake not one, but two master degrees.

Swinburne’s joint masters program
with Northeastern University (Boston, US) gives students the opportunity toundertake a Master of Business (International Business) or a Master of Accounting from Swinburne and a Master of Science in Leadership, which is taught at Swinburne by visiting Northeastern staff.

Students not only receive two master degrees in two years, but gain qualifications from both universities.

Sarah first heard about the program when she was working in internationaleducation and came to visit Swinburne last year. She decided on the Master of Business option. “It was the balance of business and leadership that really drew me to the program,” she says.

Of course, cosmopolitan Melbourne is a very different experience to Sarah’s time spent backpacking through some of Australia’s most arid terrain. “I’m really enjoying getting to know the area,” she says. “I really enjoy the cafes and the easy access into the city [from Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus]. I’ve met lots of
people from all over the world.”

“A lot of people ask, ‘Why didn’t you just do an MBA?’” she says. “I thought why not study overseas? I think it’s really going to set me apart, having the Master of  Business (International Business) with the leadership component. It just makes you stand out that much more from the competition.”
